Zurich String Soloists
The Zurich String Soloists, founded in 1988, consist of a regular fomation of 12 musicians (strings and harpsichord). This ensemble was initiated by the "primus inter pares", Janos Balkanyi, concertmaster of the Zurich Opera orchestra. Although the debut of the Zurich String Soloists was not a long time ago - in May 1989 in the Zurich Tonhalle - they can already look back on numerous very successful performances. Due to the memorable debut concert which filled both press and audience with enthusiasm, the Zurich String Soloists were committed among others by the Zurich Opera to giving guest perfomances and to perform on the occasion of the "International June Festival 1990".
Ever since that, the frequency of performances of the Zurich String Soloists has been increased. In addition to a successful performance on Swiss public television and a recognised CD-recording of works by Telemann, Mozart and Schostakowitsch - released with PRO ARTE RECORDS - the ensemble went on concert tours to Germany, Spain and Austria (opening concert of the Montafon Summer Concerts) and to the Budapest Spring Festival. Throughout these varied and noble tasks the musicians try to remain true to their very own principles, namely to prepare themselves eagerly for every concert and to perform in an excellent and professional manner. Every concert is to become a musical festivity, no matter where or when it is taking place. In order to attain these ambitions the musicians strive for a perfect teamwork, where the ideas and imputs of every single member form the final result. In the same light the Zurich String Soloists see their performing without a conductor; here too their professional working together is evident. It is a demanding task for every single musician, but it is also a real artistic challence every member likes to accept. Important to them is also the selection of the works they perfom: they like to play concerts with soloists from among themselves and with other young and gifted artists.
