Hans-Jürgen Studer, organ
Hans-Jürgen Studer was born in 1961 in Kehl am Rhein. Despite the rumours, he has actually never played the recorder! He also was no infant prodigy and at 10 he was considered to be just a lazy piano student. When he was 15, he got into the Conservatoire National de la Ville de Strasbourg/F., where he was taught by Michel Chapuis and Marc Schaefer.
In the year 1980, he started to study at the Musikhochschule Zürich in the Organ Department of Janine Lehmann, who previously worked as an organist at St. Peter in Zürich. In 1985 he got his organ teaching diploma. From this year on, he continued his studies first at the Musikhochschule Wien under Prof. Peter Planyavsky (at that time also organist at the Dom-und Metropolitankirche St. Stephan), where he got the concert diploma in 1989. He then carried on with his studies at the Musikhochschule Zürich, taught by Dr. Bernhard Billeter. Here he got a concert diploma with honours in 1991. In 1993 he also got his piano diploma SMPV under Patrizio Mazzola. He then continued his education specializing in the subjects of pianoforte (Dr. Bernhard Billeter, Zürich), improvisation (Pater Theo Flury, Einsiedeln/Rom) and current harpsichord (Johann Sonnleitner, Zürich).
Since then, Hans-Jürgen Studer has worked as a piano and organ teacher in various music schools. Since 1989 he has also worked as organist for the Reformierten Stadtkirche Zug, playing the remarkable organ Goll. Hans-Jürgen Studer does not normally give many concerts outside his church, but he has nonetheless done some radio and CD recordings.
