Daniel Zbinden, piano
The pianist Daniel Zbinden was born in 1963 and attended the primary and high schools in Glarus. After obtaining his First Prize from the International Conservatory in Paris he studied in Zurich (Pedagogy) with Rudolf am Bach und Hans Schicker (Artist s Diploma). He has also attended Master Classes with Alfons Kontarsky, Rudolf Kehrer (Vienna) und Gabrielle Lengyel (Paris), chamber music.
Parallel to his musical education he studied French language and culture, History and Musicology at the University of Zurich, completing his Degree with a thesis on Symbolism of Music Instruments in the literary works of George Sand.
After his studies at the university and a year of teaching at the high school in Glarus he decided in 1993 to pursue a career in music and took further lessons from Hubert Harry at the Conservatory in Luzern.
Daniel Zbindens musical activities cover a broad spectrum: teaching at the Music School in Glarus, lecturing on musicological subjects, piano recitals, chamber music and accompanying, solo concerts and CD recordings with orchestra (for example piano concertos of Haydn, Mozart and Grieg with the Radio Symphony Orchestra Pilsen and by Schumann and Liszt with the Orchestra of the Ermitage „Camerata St. Petersburg“ under the direction of Christoph Rehli).
